Provides Warmth And Comfort
Carpet provides actual thermal resistance, or R-value. In colder climates or seasons, it retains warm air longer, an energy conservation benefit. Carpet also provides a comfortable place to sit, play or work and gives a room an overall warmer feeling.
Adds Beauty And Style
You can choose from many thousands of carpet styles and colors. That means your ultimate choice will reflect how you want to personalize your living space. Carpet can be a neutral foundation, or it can be a focal point with vibrant colors and stronger bolder patterns and textures.
Improves Indoor Air Quality
New carpet is the lowest VOC-emitting flooring choice available. It actually acts as a passive air filter, trapping dust, pollen and other particles and removing them from the breathing zone. Studies have shown that people with asthma and allergy problems have seen symptoms improve with carpet.
Softens Slips And Falls
Carpet is ideal for cushioning our footsteps, reducing slips and falls and minimizing injuries when falls do occur. Carpet provides safety protection for the whole family, but especially for toddlers and older individuals.
Reduces Household Noise
Big screen TVs, speaker phones, computers and modern sound systems make our homes noisy places. Carpet helps absorb these sounds. Adding a cushion pad beneath your carpet reduces noise even further. Carpet also works as a sound barrier between floors by helping to block sound transmission to rooms below. And carpet on stairs helps mask the sound of constant foot traffic.
Is Easier And Less Costly To Maintain
According to the IICRC, carpet usually costs less over time than hard surface flooring to purchase, clean, & maintain. Carpeting is also less labor intensive to clean and maintain than hard surface flooring.

There are five types to choose from, within each type, there are many colors and patterns that are available. From sophisticated patterned carpet, to luxurious plush twists, Ray’s Flooring Studio has something for you.
Still one of today’s most popular constructions, cut pile achieves its durability through the type of fiber used, density of tufts and the amount of twist in the yarn. Highly twisted yarn will hold its shape longer, making it a smart choice for high-traffic areas.
Understanding Carpet Fibers – To get the best performance and most enjoyment out of your carpet it is essential to select a carpet fiber that fits your needs. The majority of the carpet produced in the United States contains one of five primary pile fibers: nylon, polyester, polypropylene (olefin), triexta and wool. Synthetic fibers represent the vast majority of the fiber used to manufacture carpet in the U.S. Each fiber type offers somewhat different attributes with regard to durability, abrasion resistance, texture retention, stain and soil resistance, colorfastness, ease of cleaning and color clarity. Manufacturers, retailers, specifiers, and designers are valuable resources in helping you determine the most appropriate fiber and carpet construction for your needs.
Brand Name Examples: Mohawk Wear-Dated, Shaw Anso, Stainmaster, Karastan Kashmere
Nylon is the most durable and the most resilient of all carpet fibers. A resilient fiber is defined as having the ability to return to its original form or position after being bent, compressed, or stretched. Nylon is one of the more expensive fibers second only to wool. Nylon is resistant to most dirt, mildew, and moisture. Nylon is also known for its ease of maintenance and non-allergenic properties.
Many consumers believe carpet cushion is used for the purpose of comfort under foot. While this a result of the use of carpet padding, the primary reason for carpet cushion is to absorb impact to which the carpet would otherwise be subjected. This impact can cause synthetic latex to break down, backings to stretch, separation of the primary backing from the secondary backing (delamination) and unnecessary stress on the face fiber.
Urethane foam pads are good for the budget conscious. Urethane foam will make the carpet feel soft and comfy but is not recommended for high traffic areas like stairways or halls.
